Welcome

Special Announcement

The era of woodfired ceramics at Prairie Dog Pottery has come to an end. However, this is not the end of my work in ceramics art—it marks the beginning of a new direction in 2025. More information will come as the year unfolds. In the meantime, the site will continue to show examples of my woodfired art and information about it.

Simplicity is not an end in art, but one arrives at simplicity in spite of oneself in drawing near to the reality in things.

Kiln at Prairie Dog Pottery

There is no abstract art. You must always start with something. Afterword you can remove all traces of reality. There’s no danger then, anyway, because the idea of the object will have left an indelible mark. It is what started the artist off, excited his ideas, and stirred up his emotions. Ideas and emotions will in the end be prisoners in his work. Whatever they do, they can’t escape from the picture. They form an integral part of it, even when their presence is no longer discernible.
